RUPSHU is western fringe of the CHANTANG, a huge plateau that spreads hundreds of kilometers east across Tibet. It’s a starkly beautiful region of high-altitude arid plains, gentle mountain ranges and saltwater lakes such as TSOMORIRI & TSOKAR. The inhabitants are largely pastoral nomads.
During this tour you have two days of hiking at Tsokar & Tsomoriri lakes at an altitude of around 4500 mts.

Nubra Valley Jeep Safari

Nubra is located in the north of Leh. Nubra is a tributary to the Shyok, which flows parallel to the Indus. On the other side of the Ladakh range the Nubra Valley used to be on the caravan route leading from Leh to Kashgar through the two passes of Saser and Karakoram. The main attractions of this area are the Bactarian Camels (Double Humped Camels), Khardung-La Pass (world's highest motorable road at 18,380 feet) and the monasteries like Samstaling.

It is one of Ladakh’s protected areas, which was opened to tourists in 1994. Most of the trekkers exploring this region have concentrated on routes from the Indus Valley into Nubra. At the moment most tourists visit this area as Jeep Safari.

The Safari leads to Nubra Valley through Khardung-La, which is about 39 kms from Leh. Camel Safari can be organized from Deskit to Hundar Village for 2 hours. This tour can be extended for 3 days 2 nights. Permit is needed to this area, which is issued by the Deputy Commissioner at Leh itself.

Tsomoriri & Tsokar Jeep Safari

The safari to these two lakes in the Rupshu Valley is something, which has to be experienced to believe. Nomadic people known as Changpas inhabit a large area to the southeast of Leh. The altitude of the valley varies between 4000 and 5000 meters. The climate is extremely cold and dry.
Brackish Tsomoriri lake is surrounded by snow-topped barren mountains. This unique habitant attracts many migratory water birds including brahminy ducks and black-neck cranes and the rare barheaded geese.

Tsokar is a salt lake surrounded by white heaps of saline deposits in a vast dusty bowl surrounded by barren mountains. There is a freshwater lake to the south-east of Tsokar called STARTSAPUK Tso and herds of Kiang (Tibetan wild ass) often graze on the plain nearby.

The tour can be finished in three to four days. Overnight camping is in tent. Permit is needed to this area, which is issued by the Deputy Commissioner at Leh.

Lakes Jeep Safari

This is a 6 days tour covering few of main monasteries and the lakes. The nights you have to spend in two men tents.

Pangong is a vast lake, 150 Kms in length and 4 Kms in width. It stretches from the north-east of Ladakh across the border into Tibet. The lake cannot support aquatic life due to presence of high salt and mineral content in it.

Tsomoriri & Tsokar lakes are situated in the Rupshu region of eastern Ladakh. The true beauty of the region lies in its vast untamed space, rare wild life and nomadic inhabitants. These high-altitude lakes have extremely fragile ecosystem and provide habitats of rare species of birds.

TakTak is the only gompa in Ladakh of the Nyinggmapa sect, the oldest Tibetan order. This interesting little monastery is built around a cave where it is believed Padmasambhava lived and meditated for a while.

Valley of Brokpas Jeep Safari

This 5 days jeep tour allows you to explore the rich & diverse culture of Ladakh. The unique culture and amazing natural environment of Ladakh have drawn travelers to this region for centuries.

Downstream from KHALSI to the north-east of Leh along the lower Indus region is inhabited by a distinctive group of Dard people known as Brokpa. They have preserved their unique form of Buddhism, which is mixed with the pre-Buddhist animistic religion, BON. They are a fascinating people who are a very different from other Ladakhis, with their strong Aryan looks, language and clothing.

Apart from this you visit some of the famous monasteries on this side of Ladakh and visit a village, which is famous for producing some of the best metal work in Ladakh. The Monastery at Lamayuru is one of the most immediately striking in Ladakh. Its position on top of a beautifully eroded crag, complete with rock pinnacles and caves, gives it an almost fairy-tale quality as it stands over the small village below.

Alchi built in the 11th century is a treasure trove of early Buddhist art in the Kashmiri tradition. A style quite different from the Tibetan art found in Ladakh’s other monasteries.

Our efficient staff accompanies the tour. Nights are in camp.

  • Day1: Leh – Likir – Lamayuru.
  • Day2: Lamayuru – Wanla – Dha-Hanu.
